Lyons pushes plan to monitor Cemex plant

Lyons residents are asking the Boulder County Board of Health and other community groups to support a community project to monitor the environmental impact of the Cemex cement plant.

Late last month, the state fined Cemex $282,000 for multiple clean-air violations and required "significant" health and environmental changes. Of that, $149,000 must go into a project outlining improvements to environmental and public health.

This week, residents presented their proposed project to the Board of Health.

The proposal would ask Cemex to regularly post health-related information, such as details about its emissions and number of truck trips to the plant, on a public Web site. It also would post live images of the plant.
